Largest Outdoor Influencer in the World Retires: Outdoor Boys

The Outdoor Boys Youtube Channel is one of the most beloved channels in the world. With its 15.1 million subscribers, the Outdoor Boys Youtube channel has become one of the fastest growing Youtube channels and the largest Outdoor platform in the world.

Luke Nichols, the creator behind the videos, showcases his adventures that range all the way from intense winter survival trips in the Alaskan wilderness to hunting with remote African tribes in Tanzania. However, it seems that these adventures have come to an end.

Outdoor Boys farewell video

Farewell

Luke Nichols has captured the gaze of millions of people all around the world by giving them insight into activities that most would never have the chance to see. It’s not everyday that one can survive in a 10ft deep snow dugout shelter during a snowstorm or survive while being stranded for 3 days in Alaska’s rainforests. However, Nichols was able to capture these incredible moments and share them with the world. His videos averaged many millions of views and were as captivating as ever. No doubt another reason why so many people were attracted to his channel is simply because he was a family man. He often brought his family, his wife and three sons, on his adventures which have become staples of his channel.

However, all good things must come to an end. On May 17, 2025, a video was posted to the Outdoor Boys channel titled “Goodbye.” In the video, Luke announces that he will be retiring from making videos for a multitude of reasons. First, he explains how making these videos has taken a physical and mental toll on his health. He first raised his concerns about his old age and physical state last year when he injured his knee in a survival video and had to change his upload schedule to be less frequent. He then goes on to explain how the long nights of editing and worrying about releasing videos have exhausted him and prevented him from spending more time with his family. Luke also says that he has faced challenges with being overwhelmed by fan interactions, specifically concerning his family’s privacy. He also states some statistics about his channel’s growth, namely that he has gained over 12 million subscribers in the past 18 months and has amassed over 2 billion views. This unprecedented amount of growth has been seen almost nowhere else but has also prevented his family from living “normal” lives. He simply wants to raise his kids and be with his family. This is perhaps the largest reason for his departure from Youtube. The video ends with Luke voicing his eternal gratefulness for all that have supported him and a heartwarming montage of clips from adventures throughout the 10 years of his channel.

Thank you, Outdoor Boys

The Outdoor Boys have spread the love of the wilderness and the outdoors to millions of people all around the world. Recently, there has been a spike in outdoor recreation and activities among the younger people on social media. This is no doubt a result of the Outdoor Boys’ engaging and incredible videos. Shortly after the announcement, fans flocked to all different social media platforms to mourn, further showing the impact that the Outdoor Boys had. They were able to show the beauty, the ruggedness, and the fun of the outdoors. They were able to make the wild feel like home. On behalf of the outdoor community, for all that you have done, we thank you, Outdoor Boys.

In his farewell video, Luke left one more message:

“If you feel my videos have helped you in some way, then go out and find someone you can help.”
